Large datasets in Google Earth The latest version of Google Earth allows you to 'stream' small pieces of your content as needed. Download version 4, and click the image to the right for an example showing 10,000 houses that were on the market last year.
Interactive MAPS Google Maps has a great interface; we've used it for a number of projects. But sometimes you need different licensing terms, or more robust integration with custom maps and open standards. Then we turn to ka-map or OpenLayers, as shown to the right.

Visualizations 2D is nice, but 3D is nicer. We use software from 3DNature for detailed time-lapse scenarios, and Google Earth for quick flyovers with your custom cartography.
